Our energy systems are changing and creating many well-paying job opportunities. EnergySmart CNY workforce development programs and resources help connect job seekers with employers and also supports access to education, training, and other needed resources that prepare them for employment in the clean energy sector. The Hub is also here to connect businesses with hiring and training funding opportunities to support business growth.
The clean energy workforce is on the brink of a significant shift as the older generation nears retirement age. This impending wave of retirements is expected to create a substantial gap in the workforce, opening up new opportunities in the workforce. With the clean energy industry’s growing importance, those entering the workforce now are well-positioned to build meaningful, long-lasting careers in a field that is critical to global sustainability.
To meet the goals laid out in New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, we need to expand the workforce within the clean energy industry across the state. Increasing access to employment in fields like HVAC/R and heat pump installation, insulation and air sealing, solar and wind energy, parts manufacturing, and more, while proving wrap-around services to job seekers and businesses, will enhance our capacity for climate protection.
NYSERDA has dedicated more than $170 million in funding for workforce development and training. We are working to ensure all New Yorkers are able to power the future and benefit from the investments and opportunities provided by this historic transition. Ensuring equity and inclusion in our climate actions means New York will ensure that all communities, but especially populations within disadvantaged communities, will benefit from the State’s investments and opportunities, including reducing environmental impacts and creating new jobs and economic opportunities.
Join a growing number of companies that have become NYSERDA qualified for energy efficiency programs and hiring & training support opportunities.
Whether you’re just starting your career or looking to make a switch, programs and funding are available to help you become a trained clean energy professional.
